Group for time and frequency is responsible for the realization of the SI unit of time – the second standard. The Group is engaged in research and development standards of realization SI units and derived units; development and facilitation of new methods in calibration and testing; improvement of metrology properties for national standards and methods; providing and maintain the traceability chain metrological properties for national standards and reference standards; recognition and approval of CMCs in the scope of Mutual agreement for national measurement standards and for calibration and measurement certificates issued by NMIs (MRA); preparation and adoption of metrology rules for measurement device for which verification is obligatory, such as type approval and verification of measuring instruments, and metrological expertise.

The Group also performs tasks related to the implementation of legal time distribution.

In the domain of scientific, industrial and legal metrology, the Group for time and frequency carries out calibration of standards, as well as testing of measuring instruments for the purpose of type approval of measuring instruments in the fields of time, frequency and speed.

The group's work is covered by integrated quality management and is carried out in accordance with all relevant technical standards.

Group for time and frequency develops and maintains national time and frequency standard.

Within the European Association of National Metrology Institutes – EURAMET, the group belongs to the Technical Committee for Time and Frequency (TC-TF).
