"Hallmarking Convention" Meeting and the Meeting of the International Association of Assay Offices (IAAO)

In Lisbon on September 16, 2013, was held the 72nd meeting of the Standing Committee of the Convention on the control and marking of precious metals "Hallmarking Convention," and on September 17, held the 12th Meeting of the International Association of Assay Offices (IAAO). At these meetings, as the representatives of the Republic of Serbia, participated Jelena Popovic, Assistant Minister of Economy and Vida Živkovic, Director of the Directorate of Measures and Precious Metals.

At the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Convention were discussed the normative and technical issues relevant to the Convention, on objections from some Member States, diversity rules and regulations of the European Union and the Convention relating to the free movement of precious metals articles and their harmonization, the status of some member countries and the countries wishing to join the membership, communication among members of the Convention, the Convention cooperation with other organizations, as well as the Convention of finances. Participation of representatives of Serbia at the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Convention was extremely important because it is the first time Serbia has participated as observer. Mrs. Jelena Popovic reported the Committee of the intention of Serbia to submit a formal request for full membership in the Convention and, in this regard, presented the legal framework and control system of precious metals articles in Serbia.

At the IAAO meeting were discussed the results of the performed "Round Robins" analysis (RR 29, RR 30 and RR 31) of silver, gold and platinum, by chemical method and XRF method. In these circular analyzes, successfully participated Directorate of Measures and Precious Metals. Considered were the issue of confidentiality of the results of these circular analyses, have been proposed future circular analysis cycles, and other matters relevant to the control of precious metals articles.
Host of these meetings was to Assay office of precious metals of Portugal.
